Christmas in the Harbour Celebrating 25 Years!
Experience Christmas in a whole new way.
If you want to recapture the magic of the festive season, this signature Peninsula event is the way to do it. Since 1999, a committed team of locals has been helping turn Port de Grave Harbour into a floating North Pole. The annual Christmas Boat Lighting and Carol Singing takes place the second Friday in December and the lights shimmer off the water’s surface till Old Christmas Day (January 6th).
Join us on opening night to see the lights come on, along with visits from some very special guests – traditional Newfoundland Mummers and Santa himself! Grab a hot chocolate, bring your singing voice, and bask in the festive spirit.
Even if you can’t make it to opening night, a walk amid 50 to 60 brightly lit, bobbing boats is a seasonal treat not to be missed. Drawing more and more visitors every year, the magical image of a harbour aglow has become internationally recognized and prominently featured in provincial tourism materials.

Light up your Christmas!
Once you’ve experienced Christmas in the Harbour, your next stop has to be the St. Mark’s Heritage Church and the Cannon Richard’s Tea Room, the site of the largest crab pot Christmas tree in Atlantic Canada. Using over 450 pots — a boat load of pots typically brought to the crab grounds at the beginning of the crab season — we’ve arranged and decorated the pots in spectacular fashion, with creatively applied fishing gear and thousands of Christmas lights to create a Christmas tree like no other.
